About Mission Beach
The seaside township of Mission Beach, Australia, is located between the northern Queensland cities
of Cairns and Townsville. Mission Beach is Tropical North Queensland's closest mainland
point to the Great Barrier Reef. The beautiful
Dunk Island, Bedarra Island and the
Family Group Islands sit only a few kilometers offshore.
Mission Beach is a unique holiday destination where the wonders of world heritage rainforest
meet the blue waters of the Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef. Mission Beach is best
known for its three awe-inspiring environments, comprising:
- fourteen kilometres of pristine sandy beach
- world-heritage listed rainforest which is home to the endangered cassowary, and
- the Great Barrier Reef, only a short boat trip away.
Mission Beach has a small country town feel, with a population in the vicinity of 3000.
The township is made up of the villages of Bingil Bay, Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach
and South Mission Beach. The town is laid back but has so much to offer local and
overseas travellers. Local activities include skydiving,
white water rafting,
sea kayaking,
SCUBA diving, snorkelling, walking tracks and secluded beaches.

Getting to Mission Beach
Driving
The drive to Mission Beach takes you through the heart of the Australian
sugar cane and banana farming areas and past some of north Queensland's most
impressive rainforest National Parks. Once in Mission Beach you can visit the
Great Barrier Reef, rainforests, and Dunk Island.

The Bruce Highway is Highway No. 1 and as you can see from the map Mission Beach is located only 10km off the main highway.

Flying
Buses
Mission Beach is on the route for the main bus operators Greyhound and Premier and a local company,
Mission Beach Dunk Island Connections. The buses run several times every day
and the bus-stop is right outside our shop!
Greyhound operates 9 services a day into and out of Mission Beach. Bookings can be made via the
Greyhound website or through the
Mission Beach Information Station.
Premier run 2 services a day: south bound at 9.25am and north bound at 5.20pm. If departing
from Cairns you will need to be at the Lake Street stop at 7.00am for a 7.25am departure.
Tickets are available direct from Premier on 13 34 10 or through the
Mission Beach Information Station.
Mission Beach Dunk Island Connections are a local company that offer a bus service running
3 times daily both north and south
stopping at Silky Oaks, Port Douglas, Cairns Northern Beaches, Cairns CBD, Cairns Airport, Innisfail,
Mission Beach and (via the ferry) Dunk Island. Please contact us for
an up-to-date timetable and prices.
Trains
The nearest railway station is located in Tully (22 km inland from Mission Beach).
Services include the Sunlander and the Tilt Train. A taxi service is available to transfer
clients from Tully to Mission Beach and the cost is approximately $55 for a vehicle that can
